This was going to be a huge summer for sport. We would have had the typical excitement of the GAA championships, with Ireland's quest for medals at the Olympics in Tokyo was also set to grip the nation.
However, no event would have got more attention in this part of the world than Euro 2020. While some of that may have been dependant on Ireland's ability to actually qualify for the finals, a major tournament being held on Irish soil for the first time would have been a massive deal.
The Aviva Stadium was set to host four fixtures, three group games and a last-16 tie. Ireland would have played in two of those had they qualified, while England were also likely to be playing in that knockout game, possibly against Germany.
The event has now been pushed back until 2021, meaning Irish football fans will have to wait a year before seeing a major tournament in Dublin. Until then, this is the closest we will get.
The Euro 2020 video game has been made available to download today. An add-on to Pro Evolution Soccer 2020, it is free to download.
