FIFA 16 is far different to last year's version, and many gamers are struggling to adapt to the new passing game in particular.
If you are having trouble getting your team to click, be it in career mode, in online Seasons play, or in Ultimate Team, then a simple change of formation could be all you need to kick into gear.
Every year different formations become less effective in some cases and more effective in others, but we've tested the following five formations in the new game and can say that they will help you return to winning ways.
4-2-3-1
Listed in career mode and kickoff as a 4-5-1 variant, the 4-2-3-1 is a classic go to for teams that only have one usable striker up top. As opposed to a 4-3-3, the 4-2-3-1 allows many options for passing through midfield, with a target man up top to bring others into play.
4-2-2-2
Listed in career mode and kickoff as a 4-4-2 variant, this is a wondefully balanced formation that provides passing options all the way up the pitch, a bit of width, and two strikers to run in behind or play one-twos with. My personal favourite, extremely well suited for FIFA 16.
3-5-2
Width, lots of options in the middle, two up top, and enough cover at the back to deal with most attacks through the middle, the 3-5-2 is back with a bang in FIFA 16. The only weakness is against formations that also offer width going forward, such as a 4-3-3, but there are a lot of ways to play a 3-5-2 this year.
4-1-2-1-2
Listed in career mode and kick off as 442 diamond wide, and 4-1-2-1-2 (1) in online modes, the classic 4-1-2-1-2 has been a go-to formation in FIFA for years and that is true for FIFA 16 in particular. Great balance, good width, and consistent passing angles, this has already proven to be very popular in Ultimate Team.
4-3-3 Attack
Classic, yet effective, the 4-3-3 with a CAM offers width (in case you've noticed a trend, width is quite important this year) but doesn't isolate the striker like other variants of the formation can. If you like to play a counter attacking game, then this is the formation you pick.
