Last weekend was like Christmas for gamers as Summer Game Fest 2024 kicked off with a weekend full of announcements and surprises! Summer Game Fest filled in the gap left by E3, with the event starting on Friday, June 7th and continuing throughout the weekend. The excitement started on Friday with the Summer Game Fest Keynote live from the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, followed by the Future Games showcase, the Xbox Showcase and the Ubisoft event.

There was a lot to take in with all the new reveals and announcements about new and existing games, but not to worry, here is your recap on some of the major announcements Summer Game Fest had to offer!

Lego Horizon Adventure

The game announcement to start the event was Lego Horizon Adventures, a Lego version of the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn. The trailer looked at Lego Aloy and the world around her, with our beloved robotic creatures also returning in Lego form. The trailer looks at a fun, humorous, lighthearted game while sticking to the roots of the Horizon Series.

Lego Horizon Adventures is set to come out this Holiday Season on PS5, Switch, Steam and Epic Store.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions

Did you play Quidditch World Cup on the PlayStation 2? If that’s a game that gives you nostalgia and makes you miss that game, I have good news! The highly anticipated Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions was shown at the keynote. The game is purely about the fictional sport, Quidditch and not only that, the trailer hints that your favourite characters from the movies may be featured too! Alongside stunning visuals, you will work your way to the finals and claim your role as champion!

Your Quidditch training begins when Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions releases on September 3rd, 2024 on PC and consoles.

Palworld

Palworld took the gaming community by storm earlier this year when it first launched, with the “pals” stealing the hearts of many gamers. This open-world survival game announced its Sakurajima Update at the opening showcase. This update gives players a new Island to explore, new pals, new subspecies, Xbox dedicated servers and new factions and boss fights.

The Palworld Sakurajima Update is set for release on the 27th of June, 2024.

Valorant: Console Edition

Whether you’re a fan of first-person shooters or not, most gamers are no doubt familiar with Valorant. Unfortunately, console players had to miss out on the Valorant experience as it is only available on PC. But that is about to change, as Riot Games announced that Valorant is on its way to consoles! Valorant is ready to welcome a new group of players to the community by showcasing in-game footage captured on the console and with a controller.

Valorant Console Edition is set to release this year! But if you can’t wait to try it out, open beta begins on June 14th and you can sign up right now at beta.playvalorant.com.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Kicking off the Xbox Showcase, fans got a first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This new addition to the Call of Duty games brings players to the early 90s. The game aims to be familiar to existing players while adding new and exciting features, such as a new movement system to allow for more advanced movements in shooting. With new campaigns, the Black Ops team is eager to give a unique experience to fans with various types of missions.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Since its first release in 1993, Doom has been considered a retro classic among gamers. But whether you have been a fan of the Doom Series from the very beginning or have caught up later, fans were in for a treat at the Xbox Games Showcase as Doom: The Dark Ages was revealed. The trailer offered a glimpse at the in-game graphics and the gameplay which fans of the series are sure to love!

Fallout 76: Skyline Valley

If you're an active Fallout player or currently binging the Fallout TV show, there was an announcement just for you with a look at Fallout 76: Skyline Valley. This update adds a new expansion to the map with new places to explore, new enemies and new quests to complete. One thing is for sure, this update will be keeping all Fallout players busy for the foreseeable future.

Sea of Thieves: Season 13

Sailing the virtual seas either alone or with friends is about to become more fun as Sea of Thieves: Season 13 is on the way! Not only are we getting new world events, brand new additions to the map and new voyages, but Season 13 will let players play as villains for the first time. While more details are still to come, this update is guaranteed to kickstart new adventures for all Sea of Thieves players.

The new season of Sea of Thieves will be released on July 25th, 2024.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Fans of the Life is Strange franchise were in for a huge surprise when the trailer was revealed for Life is Strange: Double Exposure. This supernatural murder mystery adventure is not only the latest instalment in the franchise but also sees the return of the protagonist from the very first game—Max Caulfield. This is the first time a returning character has taken the lead in the Life is Strange series, so fans are sure to feel nostalgic about this new adventure.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure will be released on October 29th, 2024.

Assassin's Creed: Shadow

If you're an Assassin's Creed fan in need of a new adventure, there is some good news for you to be excited about as the Xbox and Ubisoft Showcase gave a new look at Assassin's Creed: Shadows gameplay. The preview gave a strong look at the in-game world, the graphics and the enemy combat. The Ubisoft conference also held a Developer’s Commentary Showcase which provided an inside look behind the scenes and the planning that went into Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

Assassin's Creed: Shadows is set to release on November 15th, 2024.

This is only a taste of what Summer Game Fest 2024 had to offer, as the weekend was packed with announcements and surprises.
