We have heard some awful Irish accents in media down through the years, but this effort from Starfield is without doubt among the worst of them.
People in this part of the world cannot really comprehend how dialects from this country are portrayed in movies, TV, and in gaming releases. There are people from Ireland in every corner of the globe, meaning it surely cannot be that difficult to get a read on what the accent should sound like.
While the easiest solution would just be to get actual Irish people to play those roles, the least you can ask for is someone to do the accent justice. Of course, more often than these releases seem to fail that basic test.
Starfield has absolutely butchered the Irish accent
Starfield is one of the most anticipated games of 2023, with gamers hugely excited to see what the new world from Bethesda would have to offer. Having given us the likes of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, hopes were high that we would have an instant classic on our hands.
It has already been quite the success despite some obvious issues, receiving fairly promising reviews and topping the sales charts.
While many are enjoying the game, one particular aspect of it has drawn the attention of people in Ireland.
A supposed Irish accent has popped up during the course of play and it's not an exaggeration to call it an absolute abomination.

Absolutely shocking. It's essentially a basic American accent with the odd 'begorrah' thrown in.
This is not the first time the Irish accent has been butchered in the world of gaming, although some titles have fared a bit better in this regard in recent years. Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the viking centred title that had a whole DLC storyline based in Ireland, actually did very well when it came to nailing the accent.
Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case in Starfield.
