Sifu has announced its next video game, Rematch. It is a five-a-side football game that takes cues from multiplayer sports titles like Rocket League, where each player on the field is controlled by gamers online.
Unlike its competitors in another football outlet, EA's FC, Rematch is played from a third-person perspective. Its simple art style is similar to that of usual Sifu designs. The game focuses on action more than simulation, meaning there are no rules like offsides or AI-controller behaviour, so you can have goal-hanging friends who don’t need to track back and an ideal game for those who wouldn't be up to scratch with all the rules and the wonders that is VAR.
Channelling similar vibes to the FIFA Street classic, Rematch aims to be an arcade-like experience where players can show off their ball-handling skills with style rather than precision. Last month, the game was announced at the 2024 Game Awards and is currently developing for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Unlike most multiplayer games, Rematch is not free to play.
It will share a seasonal content drop model with other multiplayer games like Marvel Rivals or Fortnite. New game modes and cosmetics will be released frequently, but details about them have yet to be revealed.
The game is set in a futuristic world that has embraced football as its ultimate leisure activity. Since it is set in a fictional timeline, it'll be interesting to see how, or even if, it will rope in real-world football stars for collaboration.
Release is set for 2025.
