PES 2016 was a very good game and a big jump forward for the Pro Evolution Soccer series that has been trying to recover from a massively damaging run of poor form in the years after the jump to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
EA Sports' FIFA is still the best seller, and the more popular game, but Konami have slowly but surely been coming back into contention in recent years and after watching the trailer for PES 2017, it looks like there could be a serious challenge to the football video-game crown this year.
Firstly, the visuals are absolutely stunning. This is the best-looking football game we've seen on a console and for the purpose of the trailer the Barcelona players in particular look creepily realistic. Coupled with gameplay changes such as the ability to play tight, fancy, intricate passes like the Barca boys, it makes for very good viewing.
It looks incredible, but looks can be deceiving and many football video-game veterans will tell you that you simply cannot judge a game on the trailer.
We should get a demo sometime around the start of the new season which will allow us to see how these new features impact the game, but after a big step forward last year, another one could deliver the game we've all been hoping for.
