Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was a truly groundbreaking game.
Finally the boom in popularity of skateboarding in the 1990s could have a video game that not only did it justice, but actively made people want to give the sport a try due to how much fun the game was.
Whether you played on PlayStation or N64 (or Dreamcast like me and presumably less than 20 other kids in Ireland did) you were sucked in and could spend hours trying to get that last elusive 'secret tape', but when it came to the characters, typically everyone had their own favourite. And then came THPS 2, and the spectacular THPS 3 on PlayStation 2.
The first game was released in 1999, so 17 years later we thought we should check in and see how our skating heroes look now. And it will make you feel old.
Tony Hawk
The reason for the games, Tony Hawk is still skating, still trying crazy stuff, and still (unforunately) lending his name to some really poor skating games.
Bob Burnquist
Brazilian vert junkie Bob Burnquist won the skateboard 'Big Air' compeition at the 2015 X Games, so he's still going strong by all accounts.
Chad Muska
The man who opted against a shirt in the old games is now an entrepreneur who has opened skate shops across America and Mexico.
Bucky Lasek
Now a driver for Subaru Rally Team USA, it's clear that Lasek was an adrenaline junike from day one.
Kareem Campbell
Still skating, and still repping 'Citystars'. "Reem" is keeping it real.
Rune Glifberg
Another one who is still skating, it turns out there's no real age limit on skateboarding. Good.
Steve Caballero
WOW! Look at Steve!
He looks like my someone grandfather wandered into a skatepark, but he can still shred:
Rodney Mullen
The godfather of ground tricks, Rodney Mullen's highlight video was without doubt the best, and he was last seen giving a Ted Talk in 2015:
Eric Koston
Still a skater, and the owner of his own company 'Fourstar Clothing'.
Bam Margera
Oh dear.
Bam is going through a tough time, and has been in rehab recently.
