Sony Santa Monica's God of War Ragnarok became a worldwide phenomenon in the gaming space within days of its release. The generational leap in performance, visuals, and stunning conclusion to Kratos' rumble with the Norse Pantheon were, and still are, hallmarks of AAA gaming. But if there's a downside to all this, it's that only PlayStation citizens are lucky enough to experience it, and that leaves us wondering about when we'll see a God of War Ragnarok PC port.
A plethora of PlayStation-exclusive titles like The Last of Us Part 1, Returnal, and Death Stranding have received a PC version despite PlayStation previously stating that will never happen. Additionally, we've already got 2018's God of War available on Windows. Considering that, Ragnarok's PC release might not be that far behind, so here is everything you need to know about it.
God of War Ragnarok PC Release Date
There has been no announcement by PlayStation regarding a God of War Ragnarok PC port. Currently, it is the company's fastest-selling exclusive to date and it continues to break innumerable records every day. As the title surely isn't suffering from a lack of interest or sales, don't expect its PC release any time soon.
God of War 2018 launched on Windows nearly four years after it was released on the PlayStation 4. It wasn't until Ragnarok was about to debut that Santa Monica confirmed a PC port for the 2018 original was on its way.
And let's be real, PlayStation purposely chose this moment to get those who had just played the 2018 installment on PC to go out and purchase the PlayStation 5 if they wanted to get their hands on the upcoming sequel, and that worked masterfully since I too was a victim of that. Taking all things into perspective, you shouldn't expect a God of War Ragnarok PC port before 2027. It will be an arduously long wait, but well, better late than never.
Will There Be A God of War Ragnarok PC Port?
Yes, a God of War Ragnarok PC port will be inevitably be made. There are a couple of reasons why I make this claim. Firstly, there's no way PlayStation would release half of the Norse saga for PC and hold back the other one. On the other hand, I have a feeling that when the next game in the franchise is officially revealed years from now, only then will a Windows version arrive.
As a matter of fact, Cory Barlog, the director of the 2018 installment had much to say regarding the highly anticipated God of War Ragnarok PC port during an interview with Game Informer:
"I have no idea. Right now, we’re taking it one game at a time……..And we’ll gauge how it does. Do people enjoy it?...... But at the end of the day, ultimately, it’s Sony’s decision."
That sounds a pretty vague, but Cory just talking about it is confirmation in itself that the port will release someday. Although, yes, he's totally right about it being Sony's decision on when that day will be.
In any case, God of War Ragnarok will eventually arrive on PC, maybe it'll be a year from now or more, but rest assured that day will come. But if you just can't wait to finish Kratos' trek into Norse mythology, then it's plainly obvious which console you need to buy.
