EA Sports have made a very wise decision ahead of the release of Madden 18, as Friday Night Lights fans everywhere will be taking an interest in one of the game's exciting new modes.
We thought the news that we were getting a Madden 18 story mode similar to 'The Journey' was exciting enough, as the idea of controlling one player on the pitch is a lot more exciting for American football than it is for 'soccer', but if you know how much of a soft spot we have for Friday Night Lights you'll understand why can't wait to get our hands on this now.
The addition of FNL favourite Scott Porter, who played Jason Street in 42 episodes of the cult classic, was confirmed at E3 earlier this week, and the man himself was on hand to express his happiness at getting involved.
Considering you start in Texas with a dream, many have drawn the link to Friday Night Lights and this is something Porter admitted played a part in his involvement, as did his background in the sport.
I got a phone call four years ago and one of the smartest things Mike [creative director for Madden's story mode] did was say 'I want good actors but I want good actors who also have either played football or are huge fans of football', so that there's no technical stuff that we had to learn.
I played football in high school and college, JR [the main character] played football in high school and college, we understand the game, so we were able to put all that aside and not even worry about it.
It's definitely going to be interesting. Here's what Street's character looks like in game:
Scott Porter's character will be your main personal relationship as your friend since the start, so we're secretly hoping for 'Texas Forever' to be a thing that is actually said at some point, although that may not make too much sense if you get drafted to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
