In EA Sports soccer simulation giant, the case has always been that some players just feel better than others when the little coloured triangle hovers above their head.
FIFA 17 is no different, as there are a number of players who this year feel like the are dominant any time the ball comes near their section of the pitch. While Gareth Bale and Luka Modric make creating chances with Real Madrid a doddle, and Sergio Aguero or Luis Suarez will pick out the top corner even when you've accidentally pressed the 'shoot' button, there are also a number of players who may not seem like world beaters on first glance, but perform well above what is exepcted of them.
Be it in Career Mode, Ultimate Team, or offline against friends, the following players will never let you down and can mix it with the best rated players in the game.
On Ultimate Team, in particular, they are all affordable and that's why we've picked them out as must-try players who play well above their overall rating.
Renato Sanches - CM - Bayern Munich
Renato Sanches might be the best pound-for-pound player in FIFA 17.
Considering he is rated at 78 overall, he may fly under the radar a bit, but as soon as you put him on the pitch you'll notice him, because he is absolutely everywhere. He swallows attacking midfielders whole, cuts passing lanes, wins ariel duels, can find his his target with a pass reliably. He also makes surging runs forward, there's nothing he can't do, and he does it all well.
An essential purchase in every game mode.
Jeremy Menez - ST - Bordeaux
One of the more popular Ligue 1 strikers on Ultimate Team as Lacazette is still quite expensive, Menez is such a reliable player who again is good at everything.
Pace, skill moves, passing, and finishing, Menez is dirt cheap and well worth a try.
Moussa Dembele - CM - Tottenham Hotspur
82 is still a high rating, but Dembele performs like he's a good five ratings higher in every stat.
A beast in the middle of the pitch, he's the perfect all-around Premier League midfielder who can push people off the ball and shield it like Jon Walters in the corner during stoppage time.
Brice Dja Djedje - RB - Watford
Such a good collection of stats for a right-back, big Brice may not be well known but he's proven a popular option for budget sides on Ultimate Team.
The stats look good, but again he plays better. High workrates mean he ivolves himself in everything.
Jonathan Tah - CB - Bayer Leverkusen
A rock-solid centre-back with a massive frame, Tah is another one who is unmissable when he's on the pitch.
A Career Mode signing to build a team around, he's great in exhibition too alongside Toprak which make Bayer Leverkusen one of the most enjoyable teams to hammer your friends with.
Just doesn't get beaten in the air.
Jack Butland - GK - Stoke
Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland is responsible for many a broken controller this year.
Probably the most popular Premier League option due to his affordability, there is very little difference between him and the very best goalkeepers in the league in Cech, Lloris, and De Gea.
Another one who is a dream signing in every mode, you've almost certainly seen what he can do already.
Hector Bellerin - RB - Arsenal
For many, Bellerin is the best right back in the game.
That 95 pace and good passing stats, that 79 is absolutely no reflection of how he plays in game. Nothing else to say.
Marcus Rasford - ST - Manchester United
Again, 76 masks how damaging he can be with his lightning pace and lethal finishing.
His physical stats are what can let him down, but depending on the formation you use and how you create chances, Rashford can be one of the best strikers to use and as a result you'll see a lot of him online.
