Shamrock Rovers defender Roberto Lopes was present for the launch of the FC 24 competition. Lopes will this month represent Cape Verde at the Africa Cup of Nations - their first game is against Chris Hughton's Ghana on Sunday night at 8pm.

The news of the Irish eSports cup comes in the aftermath of Ireland WNT captain Katie McCabe being named on the list of nominees for the FC 24 Team of the Year.

There will be a women's TOTY for the first time this year. McCabe is in the mix after an outstanding year for club and country, which saw her named in the Champions League team of the season after reaching the semi-finals with Arsenal before she led Ireland in their first-ever major tournament at last summer's World Cup.
