The long-awaited sequel to the cult classic game Dead Island has been inevitably delayed once again. Originally meant to release February 3, 2023, it has sadly now been pushed back to April 28.
The game's Twitter page announced the delay. Unfortunate as it is, fans can take solace in the fact that it's only a 12-week push back this time, which, along with the announcement, leads us to believe there's only some minor kinks to iron out before it's ready.
The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now. The new release date for Dead Island 2 will be April 28th 2023.#DeadIsland #SeeYouInHELLA pic.twitter.com/Vf1NARTECo

"The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we are as disappointed as you undoubtedly are," the announcement read. "The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now; we're going to take the time we need to make sure we can launch a game we're proud to launch."
The first Dead Island released in 2011 and received generally mixed reviews. The plot focuses on four survivors trying to escape off the fictional zombie-infested island of Banoi. Over the years, the game collected a cult status, with a sequel in the works since 2013.
In 2014, a trailer for the sequel released and subsequently went viral. However, despite the hype, the game never released due to a series of development issues. Yager Development was originally hired to develop the game in 2012, but was removed from the project in 2015 and replaced by Sumo Digital the following year. Sumo Digital was then also removed, with Dambuster, an internal studio of Deep Silver, becoming the developers in 2019.

Dead Island 2 takes place in an open-world Los Angeles and San Francisco. It takes place shortly after the events of the first game, where the US Armed Forces have put California under a full quarantine restricted zone due to a new and stronger zombie outbreak.
The post also announced a new Dead Island 2 showcase that will premiere a new trailer and gameplay on December 6. Fingers crossed we're finally getting the sequel we've been waiting nearly a decade for in only a matter of months. It is Dead Island though, so don't bet on it.
