Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III dropped yesterday, with mixed reviews for the highly anticipated first-person shooter, developed by Sledgehammer Games.
With its predecessor, Modern Warfare II, only released in September last year, a rushed product seemed plausible.
This is one of the complaints that has been aimed at the game, particularly its campaign mode, which has a very short play time. The game also has a lowly 53/100 score on Metacritic.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III Developer Responds To Criticism
However, in a statement from the head of Sledgehammer Games, Aaron Halon, he rejected these criticisms, and praised the developers for delivering the first ever 'back-to-back' sequel in Call of Duty history.
We’re incredibly proud of Modern Warfare III – both the full game experience at launch and the upcoming year of content we have planned for the community.
On behalf of the extremely talented team across Sledgehammer Games and our partner studios with whom we’ve collaborated on development, this has been a labor of love to lead the first ever back-to-back sequel in Call of Duty.

I wouldn’t rate this game. This COD is the number one worst campaign I ever played. The campaign felt like they just rushed it and they didn’t care about taking their time to make a good storyline. Felt like a DLC. COD at this point is a cash and grab. Hopefully Microsoft steps…

5.5/10 and it was only good because of the amount of side character interact we got with the *main* cast imo. missions felt so dull/fast the story in itself felt so rushed and incomplete in some ways. The game feels like a shipped out draft of what we should’ve gotten in 2024/25

6/10 unfortunately it's way less good than MW and MII - and doesn't even come close the original trilogy.
Both for story and gameplay (literally dmz pls...) but especially cuz how the ending was handled and rushed.
This could have been the GREATEST cod of all time what a waste.— 🧼💀alex💀🧼 (@alexgscod) November 3, 2023
"We cannot wait to see our community’s reaction to all that the entire game has to offer, across Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies," Halon continued in a Twitter statement.
"From the start of development, we have all been laser focused on creating the next groundbreaking Call of Duty game. Long before we wrapped up our previous game, we heard loud and clear from fans about the desire to stay and play together for longer within the same series.
"And that’s what we’ve delivered – the first true sequel in franchise history. It is also why we added features like Carry Forward for the first time to honor the investment our players have made in the Modern Warfare series.
"We’re proud to be the team to lead the way on Modern Warfare III. We have worked hard to deliver on this vision which has been years in the making. Anything said to the contrary is simply not true – this is our game and we cannot wait to play it online with all of you.”
