Jim McGuinness is renowned for his ability to inspire his players and get the best out of the teams that he has worked with.

As well as being a top class coach in Gaelic Football, McGuinness is an expert in sports psychology, and can create an incredible high performance culture in his teams that has contributed to so much success.

It appears that his inspirational magic isn't exclusive to the GAA, as he appears to have had a positive impact on Slovenian soccer manager Sasa Kolman.

Kolman is currently preparing his side to face the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League tonight, and told RTÉ Sport that he has a soft spot for the Irish.

"I have a great relationship with the [FAI] head of coach education Niall O'Regan. He is a very good friend of mine.

"We believe that Irish coach education is one of the best in Europe, so we went there trying to see what they're doing, trying to bring some ideas back to Slovenia and to try to learn from them so it was an amazing experience.

"Ruud Doktor [former FAI director of football] was part of our coach education programme course.

"He visited us in Slovenia, he was actually presenting stuff and then trying to teach us how to be better coach educators, so there's quite a lot of relationship with Ireland."

McGuinness also worked in the soccer world for years, and it was during his time with Celtic that he met Kolman, and apparently that meeting left a big impression on the young coach.

"When I was there for 10 days, I ran into Jim. We sat down, we discussed a couple of things and after one hour of talking to Jim, I felt like I was going to conquer the world.

"Seriously, I was so really grateful for that experience

"If Jim is going to be listening, I still want to say to him thank you for inspiring me. He is a very inspirational man, and I wish him all the best."

McGuinness continues to work his magic as he leads Donegal through The National League with three wins out of their first three games, only suffering their first defeat last weekend, at the hands of Galway.

However, with so many big names missing from the squad, and the team already in a very healthy place in terms of league standing, the Ulster side will only continue to improve as the championship draws nearer.
