Zach Tuohy has officially retired from the AFL, ending a 14 year long career in Australia that was glittered with success.

Although abroad, Tuohy was the pride of county Laois as he excelled in the professional sport, and represented his county and club Portloaise with immense pride.

However, no matter how proud the people of Laois were, there was always going to be a part of them that just wished that he would come home and wear the Laois jersey.

Well, at 34 years of age, the Geelong Cats legend has officially declared that is exactly what he intends on doing, and he tells the Irish News why.

"I’ve always wanted to play a senior championship game for Laois.

“I was back home in 2022 and witnessed the intensity of their training—let me tell you, if that’s the level required for inter-county football, I might be in trouble!

“I’m eager to give it a go in 2025 for sure.”

For Laois manager Justin McNulty, that will be music to his ears, as the Armagh man has already rejuvenated the county since returning to the role last season.

After securing promotion to Division Three, and in rather comfortable fashion, the Leinster side went on an impressive run in The Tailteann Cup, reaching the final and taking some very big scalps on the way, including a star studded Kildare side.

In the final itself they came up against an impressive Down team who had lost the decider in the previous season, and harboured ambitions of playing in the All-Ireland series.

Considering that they were only beaten by a single point against eventual All-Ireland winners Armagh in the Ulster championship, you can see why they felt the need to belong at the top table.

However, Laois ran them very close, and a late rally almost saw them complete the ultimate smash and grab, but with Tuohy in the mix next season, then they are more equipped than ever to compete.
