The All-Ireland preliminary quarterfinals in hurling might not be everyone’s cup of tea due to the one-sided nature of the results. All these years later, Laois's win over Dublin remains the only win for a Joe McDonagh side since the format was introduced.
This weekend, the script remained unchanged as a formidable duo of Lee Chin and Conor McDonald led Wexford to a resounding victory over their Leinster rivals. The pair's impressive performance, contributing 50% of Keith Rossiter’s side’s score (Chin 0-11, McDonald 0-5), was a key factor in the 0-32 to 0-20 win.
The Yellowbellies now turn their attention to a wounded Clare animal, a match that is scheduled as a doubleheader in Thurles next Saturday. This match, with its potential for high stakes and intense competition, is a must-watch for all sports enthusiasts. However, on a twitter post after the game, Wexford said they want the game changed to Sunday due to an “account of how so many Wexford people will be involved in all sorts of ways as we host Féile na nGael on Saturday.”

It’s all over, and we go through to play Clare in the quarter-final. That match is currently scheduled for next Saturday, but we'll be making every effort possible to have it changed to Sunday, on account of how…— Wexford GAA (@OfficialWexGAA) June 15, 2024
The national John West Féile na nGael have been long scheduled for the county on Saturday week.
Should the game be changed for this? Yes. Will the game be changed? That's a different question. The potential rescheduling of the game adds an element of uncertainty and intrigue to the upcoming sports event, as it's supposed to be shown on RTÉ.
RTÉ's Pauric Lodge confirmed Wexford's request for a venue change on Twitter after the game.
Writing in the Examiner on Saturday evening, John Fogarty reports that a "special Central Council" will take place tomorrow to discuss moving the fixtures.

Hurling preliminary quarterfinals: Cork march on
In the other preliminary quarterfinal, Cork just about had enough to Offaly as 1-10 from Patrick Horgan helped them to a 4-25 to 3-19 win in a very unconvincing performance by the Rebels.

To Offaly’s credit, they didn’t look like a team celebrating the previous weekend as they tore into Pat Ryan’s side. They had the game back to within six points thanks to a brilliant goal from Oisín Kelly.

The Rebels will have plenty to work on ahead of the Dublin clash. They conceded two stoppage-time goals and perhaps should have raised a few more green flags throughout the 70 minutes.
