There was more inconvenience for the hurlers of St Anne's Rathangan and the Rapparees in Wexford as their senior hurling quarter final was postponed for the second time in three days.

Originally fixed for Saturday night as the second game of the double-header with Shelmaliers and Crossabeg/Ballymurn, Anne's vs the Rapps was postponed initially due to floodlight failure in Wexford Park.

Due to take place on Monday night, the re-fixture also fell by the wayside, with the game now set to be scheduled for this weekend.

St Anne's GAA club told Balls that a mixture of a waterlogged pitch and floodlight issues caused the second postponement. Due to the rain, the pitch was deemed unplayable for the original throw-in time but officials agreed not to hold off on making a call for a short while as conditions appeared to improve.

Then the floodlights began acting up again, as the picture from the St Anne's Twitter account shows, and the call was made.

St Anne's had a humourous tweet about the situation.

Wexford GAA put Saturday's initial postponement down to issues with their generator.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances with our generator, the floodlights in Chadwick’s Wexford Park are currently unavailable.

"The fixture between St. Anne’s Rathangan v Rapparees is postponed until Monday, 7th October at 7.30pm in Chadwicks Wexford Park," read a statement on Wexford GAA Twitter.

The game can go ahead this weekend with both clubs out of the football championship.

It's the second such controversy surrounding the Rapparees' campaign so far with their preliminary quarter final win over Oulart-the-Ballagh also making the headlines.

Referee James Owens showed one of their players two yellows in that game but didn't send him off. Ultimately, Oulart-the-Ballagh decided not to appeal against the mistake.
