Davy Fitzgerald made no qualms about it prior to this quarter-final clash, Wexford were taking this league seriously and out to land a scalp over the League and All-Ireland champions, as he told TG4.
The league is massive. Don't let anyone fool you about that. The championship is number one, okay. League is right up there. As a young lad growing up, when Clare won there league's in the late 70s I remember that. It's what caught me hurling.
His team delivered today overcoming Galway on a scoreline of 1-23 to 0-23.
Galway were left to rue a straight red card for Jack Coyne midway through the second-half that ultimately proved the difference.
It was a nip-and-tuck game with neither side successful in gaining the upper hand until the closing exchanges. At half-time Wexford lead 1-9 to 0-11 thanks to a Conor McDonald goal after a surging run from Rory O'Connor.

Wexford's long-range shooting was extremely impressive, with Jack O'Connor and Liam Ryan both landing huge scores to keep them in touch.

For Wexford, the challenges continue thick and fast as today's result means Kilkenny in the semi-final next week. The winner of Dublin/Tipperary will face Limerick.
