Popular Samuel Beckett play the Leinster Football Championship drew to a close with another stultifying display of the futility of human life and a Leinster title for Dublin, as they eventually wrapped themselves around Westmeath to squeeze the life out of the Midlanders.
Things looked like they could have been different at half-time, with Westmeath trailing by just two points at half-time, with the Dubs looking a bit rusty and Westmeath hitting them with a decent level of intensity. Dublin seemed a bit rattled early on, with Diarmuid Connolly getting involved in an altercation with James Dolan. Dolan ruffled Connolly's hair, before the latter wrestled Dolan to the floor, ending in a bit of a schemozzle and a yellow card for both, given to them by Longford referee Fergal Kelly.
The person behind Westmeath's official twitter account was highly unimpressed with both Connolly's antics and the decisions of the referee:
Despicable officiating!

There is one man who won't be getting a Christmas card! Keep it up Westmeath!

The account also retweeted an article about of the Connolly/Dolan schemozzle from another sports website (apparently there are others).
The second half tweets were merely a stream of updates on which Dublin player had scored next, briefly interrupted by this:
Streaker on pitch. Ah well! Some are easily amused!!

With tension in the ground low, a lot of folk in the crowd had time to whip out their phones to catch the naked intruder:
