This is the single most obscure GAA sighting we have ever come across in the existence of this website.
Our desire to bring you every GAA jersey or garment sighting from around the world reached farcical levels when we brought you the Trump voter from Washington in a GAA club jacket earlier this week, but now?
An anonymous tipster has pointed us in the direction of an extremely rare Kerry GAA jersey from the 90s that has been spotted in a Texas thrift shop. Turns out Macklemore was onto something.
OK, so a YouTuber by the name of Paul Cantu has over 270,000 subscribers as he drives around thrift shops in the US looking for vintage clothes and throwback sports gear, and in his latest episode he came across a Kerry GAA jersey.
He had absolutely no clue what it was, calling it a cricket jersey and describing it as the "Ivory Coast colourway", which technically is correct as Ireland share the same colours of the Cote d'Ivoire.
Skip to 3:02 to capture the magic:
Hang on, was that an Adidas Kerry GAA jersey?
Yes, yes it was.
It surprsied us too.
It turns out that Kerry wore an Adidas sponsored jersey back in 1998, here it is being worn by Seamus Moynihan against Kildare in the All Ireland Semi-Final:
It is in immaculate condition, so how did it find it's way to Texas!? The worldwide reach of the GAA on full show here.
Back to the video, the narration and side-jokes may not be to everyone's taste, but this guy has developed a following by going around doing something that in all honesty sounds like serious fun to the jersey lovers in the office, and he has made it his job as he gets fantastic numbers on his videos and sells on the vintage items he buys.
That's it, I'm going down to hit the several charity shops in Bray in search of vintage sporting gear.
