New York come into this game hot off the back of their nail-biting win against Leitrim in the Bronx two weeks ago, their first win in Championship football. Given the fact that their historic win against Leitrim was their first competitive outing of the season, we have little to judge the Americans on. They took the game to extra time with a late point to level things up and again the teams couldn't be separated. New York eventually won out on penalties in a game that will live long in the memory of New Yorkers.
Just an incredible moment here in the Bronx last night.

Whether that momentum will be enough to see off game-experienced Sligo is a completely different question but New York's win proved that absolutely anything can happen in Championship football.
On the other hand, Sligo had more luck than Leitrim when they travelled to London, beating them 2-20 to 0-12 away from home. They also finished top of Division Four in the football leagues securing themselves promotion into division three and beating Wicklow in the final to take the Trophy home.
Head-to-head there's no doubt about it Sligo are the favourites for this encounter, the way the draw fell beating New York on Saturday is the county's best chance of getting to or even winning a Connacht Championship final in the past number of years. Beating Sligo who have so far answered all the questions asked of them this season will be a huge task for New York but who's to say this mysterious side couldn't cause another huge upset, after all Sligo only beat New York by a mere four points last season.
