The last time Tyrone met Cavan was in the Division Two final, a game which heralded the first GAA Dab and players wearing different colour boots: the rubicon at which Tyrone left their old reputation of solid but stolid behind. This flamboyance transcends mere aesthetic: Tyrone play excellent football, beguiled by the bewitching menace of Ronan O'Neill,among others.

Of the many converts to Tyrone's style of play - like a coiled spring, Tyrone sit deep before rushing forward with great sound and fury - is once-staunch critic Pat Spillane. The Kerry legend famously coined the phrase 'puke football' as Tyrone's blanket defence swallowed Kerry hole in Croke Park in the mid-noughties.
