With Moy and Knocknagree laying claim to the All-Ireland Intermediate and Junior Football titles respectively yesterday, today was the hurlers turn in Croke Park.
In the Junior final, Ardmore of Waterford overcame Fethard St Mogues of Wexford; in no small part thanks to the man-of-the-match display of Séamus Prendergast.
A tense final that went all the way into extra-time, the Intermediate final was equally as well-matched.
Kanturk of Cork and St. Patrick's Ballyragget of Kilkenny, under the fading light in Croke Park, fought out an incredibly tight game in which Anthony Nash & co came out on top ... just.
Holding a fairly narrow winning margin throughout, Ballyragget rallied well throughout against Kanturk's ever so slight dominance.
Going into the depths of added time level, it looked as if both finals were set to go to extra-time. Into the 5th minute of added time, Kanturk's Ian Walsh finally managed to push the Cork side of the line.
With wonderful poise and precise finishing, Walsh's pointed elicited an enormous roar from the gathered Kanturk supporters; betraying with their response the apparent emptiness of the surrounding stadium (1.29.20 onward from video below).
Although Ballyragget managed to get the playing going again, Kanturk hoovered up the first breaking ball and that was it - Kanturk claim the All-Ireland Intermediate title.
