Dublin fans were given cause to worry over all-star and player of the year Jack McCaffrey midweek, when a headline popped up that the wing-back could be set to miss this year's championship due to work commitments.
The Herald were claiming that McCaffrey was considering the option of moving abroad for work, and speaking after his side defeated Cork by a score of 2-14 to 2-10 in the Allianz Leagues on Saturday, Dublin manager Jim Gavin confirmed the reports to be true.
At the moment, Jack won’t be with us for the championship," said Gavin, speaking on Setanta Sports after his team's 2-14 to 2-10 win over Cork tonight.
He’s a fourth year medical student in UCD. Jack will be heading off to Africa to get some volunteer work in a hospital there for the summer and then doing some travelling afterwards.
We’ve known this for some time, we’ve given Jack time to reflect on it. He’s part of the big Dublin GAA family. He knows that we’re there for him whenever he wants to return back to play with the county and he’ll always be welcome back.

A big blow for the Dubs, who had to come from behind to beat Cork at Croke Park, especially considering the loss of Rory O’Carroll who is moving to New Zealand.
That makes two all-star players that Dublin will have to do without in their bid to retain Sam Maguire.
