We absolutely love a good GAA reference or shout-out from an obscure place here at Balls.ie, and thankfully one of our readers got in touch to bring the following clip to our attention as African news channel 'africanews' decided to educate their viewers on the beauty that a game of Gaelic football can offer.
On Friday night their regular sports segment featured a discussion on Nigerian-born former England women’s football team player Eniola Aluko and her accusations of bullying and discrimination aimed at England boss Mark Sampson and the FA, and they followed this with two minutes showcasing last week's action from Croke Park and explaining the rules of the game to the viewers. Seemingly just for the craic.
Jump to 4:55 for the feature on Gaelic football featuring clips from the first semi-final clash between Kerry and Mayo.
I don't know about you, but 'Le Football Gaélique' will now become a regular part of our office vocabulary.
We're not sure how or why that came about, but it's always nice to see a different culture single out the Gaelic games and showing them some love, so fair play to Africanews. That said, if the reporter had finished with 'Mayo 4 Sam' that would have been the icing on the cake.
Thaks to Adrian Harte for the tip-off.
