Vikki Wall's exclusion from the women's All-Star side was the major talking point from the awards last night.

The Meath forward and former player of the year has been a huge part of Meath's success as they won back to back All-Ireland titles, as they had six players in the side. Runners-up Kerry had five players, with two from Mayo, and one each from Armagh and Donegal.

As she moved to the other side of the world, Vikki Wall continued her success as she helped North Melbourne reach the AFLW Preliminary finals.

In a team that revealed some surprise inclusions, it was Donegal's Niamh Niamh McLaughlin who was crowned the senior player of the year after a brilliant year for Donegal.

McLaughlin captained her county to an All-Ireland semi-final, shocking Dublin along the way, as well as an Ulster final and Division one decider.

Vikki Wall Exclusion

While there is no denying the achievements of the players who received awards, Vikki Wall not receiving an award has raised a number of questions about the award. The 22-year-old was player of the year in 2021, and has been a major part of Meath's success in the last two years.

She has become arguably one of the biggest stars in women's sport in Ireland, and along with Orlagh Lally, who also impressed in Aussie Rules after helping Meath to another all-Ireland title, can feel very unlucky not to receive an award.

The outrage online following the awards was clear to see, as fans  raised questions as to how she wasn't viewed as one of the six best forwards in the country.

It would be a very concerning development if Vikki Wall was not awarded her all-star due to her move to Australia. This year has 22 players in the AFLW, and with more to surely join in the future, it could be a future concern.
