Yesterday was the 19th anniversary of the brawl (officially designated as 'shameful scenes') that marred perhaps the most memorable All-Ireland final of the 1990s - the 1996 All-Ireland final replay.

It is the brawl that all other brawls look up to.

We're not sure what name is given to those who devote their lives to studying rows at GAA matches ('commentators' is one rather puckish suggestion) but this is one of finest examples of the discipline.

It is Pat Spillane's finest hour.

As for the brawl itself, Pat McEnaney has since said he had made his mind up. He was going to send the totemic midfielders from both sides, John McDermott and Liam McHale.

And then one of his umpires, Francie McMahon, came over to him and uttered the immortal words.

Pat, you're going to have to send off Colm Coyle, he's after dropping about six of them.
