Ireland took a 20-point lead into half time against Australia at Croke Part on Saturday night. It was a good thing that they did - Joe Kernan's side only scored 13 points in the second half, holding on for a four-point victory.
Early in the third quarter, a brilliant free-flowing counter-attacking move, which began on the Irish half-back line, produced three of those points.
David Mundy was dispossed by combination of Jack McCaffrey and Eoin Doyle. Darren Hughes found Mattie Donnelly on the burst, who in turn hand-passed towards Donnchadh Walsh.
The Kerryman instinctively touched the ball down to Hughes who had continued his run. Looking up field, Hughes lobbed a ball in towards fellow Monahgan man Conor McManus.
Adjudging that Ireland required the certain points, Australia had already closed the half time gap by five, McManus took the mark and the three points.
