Can it just be a coincidence that 'Neighbours' threw out this archaic line of dialogue the week of an All-Ireland hurling final? No, these people are cunning. They were looking to generate a response on the other side of the world.
On Neighbours, a character who we understand is Jared's mother (clarification on who Jared is will come in due course) accused a boy lying on the bed (he may well be Jared) and another boy of 'fighting like a pair of Kilkenny Cats'.
The phrase 'Kilkenny cats' is now so bound up with the county's hurling that it is hard to recall that it had another meaning.
It essentially just means someone who is good at fighting. The suspicion on line is that it is a guarded reference to the Kilkenny hurling team the week of an All-Ireland final.
