Two men have been arrested in connection with the assault of a Laois GAA player in Carlow town in the early hours of Monday morning.
Daniel O'Reilly was attacked in the Potato Market area of the town at approximately 1 am on Monday morning as he waited for a taxi following a night out.
O'Reilly suffered serious head injuries as a result of the attack and was subsequently taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny.
In his early 20s, O'Reilly played for Laois at Croke Park over the weekend as they won the National Football League Division Four final against Carlow.
According to the Irish Times, Gardaí plan to speak with O'Reilly when he has sufficiently recovered from his injuries.
Yesterday, O'Reilly's club, Graiguecullen, issued a statement regarding the assault.
