On a massive sporting weekend in this country, there was no incredible result than St Joseph's of Tulla winning the Harty Cup in Limerick this afternoon. The competition has been dominated over the decades by the aristocrats of Munster schools hurling, but today the mixed east Clare secondary school of 564 pupils completed a famous cup in heroic form.
After beating the best of Cork and Waterford, St Josephs Tulla today took on Ardscoil Rís of Limerick. A half-an-hour drive would get you from the Limerick school to their Clare counterparts. It was no surprise that this would also involve a clash of fellow clubmates.
The parishes of Broadford and Sixmilebridge were conflicted with representatives playing for both teams in the Harty Cup final. But this season has been a season of firsts.
St Joseph’s Tulla recorded their first-ever win in the prestigious competition this season while also advancing to both the semi-final and final for the first time.
Now they're Harty Cup champions. They've overcome the odds throughout, getting the better of fancied challengers such as St Colman’s of Fermoy, CBC Cork and De La Salle.

Tulla are very much a Clare stronghold and have emerged from the shadows of rivals St Flannan's, which was an achievement in itself. They've now stopped Ardscoil Rís from earning a fifth Harty Cup.
A 0-17 points to 0-14 scoreline separated the sides at the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. Feakle clubman and school captain Ronan O'Connor was given man of the match honours.
The East Clare stronghold turned things around in the second-half after trailing Ardscoil Rís by a point at half-time. To no surprise, there were joyous scenes after the win.
St. Joseph's Tulla have done it.
Enormous effort by Ardscoil Rís who just couldn't find the goal to level it.
A thrilling contest.
