Since its first season in 2015, The Toughest Trade has offered an intriguing perspective on the stars of our native sports.
Donegal footballer Michael Murphy will participate in the third season of The Toughest trade reports the Irish Mirror.
As part of the show, Murphy will travel to France in the New Year and try his hand at rugby. The 27-year-old will join up with Top 14 side Clermont Auvergne.
Former Welsh international Shane Williams will make the move in the opposite direction, taking up GAA with Murphy's club and current Donegal county champions Glenswilly.
As happened with ex-Premier League footballer David Bentley in the first season, which was broadcast on TV3, and former NFL player Roberto Wallace in the second season, which was broadcast on RTÉ, Williams will play in a challenge game.
The 39-year-old Williams, Wales's all-time top try scorer, retired from international rugby in 2011. He finished his club career with Japanese side Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars in February of last year.
It's unclear what position Murphy would play in rugby. At 6' 2", he certainly has the size to feature in the backrow or at centre. Considering his ability from dead balls in gaelic football, it's highly likely we will see him take a few kicks at goal during his time in France.
In previous seasons of the AIB-commissioned show, there were two episodes. One featuring a gaelic footballer and the other a hurler. Kilkenny's Jackie Tyrrell took up baseball with MLB team Miami Marlins in the first season while Tipperary's Brendan Maher went Down Under to play cricket in the second season. It's not yet known, or if there will be, a hurler participating on The Toughest Trade 2017.
The previous gaelic footballers to take part in the show include Armagh's Aaron Kernan, who trained with Sunderland, and Aidan O'Shea who travelled to the US to participate in an NFL combine.
