Galway/Mayo is the rivalry for all seasons. In spite of the fact that the biggest clash is still months away, Winter and Spring have born witness to some serious niggle between the sides. Two games in the Allianz and FBD League have featured a total of six red cards. There were three sendings-off in last Sunday's game - Cillian and Diarmuid O'Connor were sent off within minutes of each other, while Galway's Paul Conroy was also sent to the line.

A fracas erupted during the game too, during which Mayo selector Tony McEntee entered the field and became embroiled in a pushing match with a Galway player.

The Irish Independent are today reporting that McEntee has been handed a proposed eight-week ban for his role in the incident. He has a right to appeal.

Added to all of that, the Indo are reporting that the respective county boards have been fined €4,000 each for the flashpoints.
