The Galway GAA County Board confirmed this morning that Tony Keady, former Galway hurler and two-time All-Ireland winner, has passed away, aged 53.
On Tuesday morning, Keady had been admitted to University Hospital Galway after a suspected heart-attack at his home.
Having spent Tuesday's night in the hospital's intensive care unit, the reality of Keady's situation quickly became apparent to many shocked friends and former teammates.
It was sadly confirmed on RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland that Keady has in fact passed away.

Former Galway hurling manager Cyril Farrell was amongst those to lead tributes to the former Hurler of the Year. Speaking to Morning Ireland, Farrell confirmed that this was "a sad day for everyone in Galway".

Keady had been part of a Galway side that won back-to-back All-Ireland titles under Farrell's management in 1987 and '88. If not for the infamous 'Tony Keady Affair' of 1989, the Tribesmen may well have extended this run further still.
