Former Dublin manager and current manager of the Westmeath U21s, Tommy Carr, was on Newstalk Breakfast this morning to talk about the latest news in the GAA's fight against racism. If a motion at the upcoming GAA congress is passed then it will mean that an occurrence of racism on the pitch will result in a red card and a minimum 8-week ban.
Tommy Carr agreed that it was certainly time for the Association to stamp down on racism. He also voiced an opinion and there could be over-sensitivity by "non-nationals" playing the game and that there was nothing wrong with him arriving at a game and asking "who's the black corner forward?"
Former Dublin footballer, Jason Sherlock, was on Pat Kenny later in the day and disagreed with Carr's assertion that it was OK to identify a player on the field as 'black'.
Here's the audio.
It should be noted that Tommy Carr has been a strong advocate of zero tolerance from the GAA when it comes to racism and has previously suggested that offenders should receive lifetime bans.
