In his Irish Indo column today, Tomas O' Se rejected criticism that the Sunday Game trio were too jocular in their treatment of the Eoghan O'Gara/Mickey Burke biting controversy.
The article quickly turned into a paean to O'Gara, for his restraint last week and his increasing unstopability as a full forward in general. He described O'Gara as the person 'most wronged' during the whole incident. He said the two Meath players were 'lucky to escape red cards' for the number of punches that flew in his direction.
He insisted that none of them were 'laughing at the idea of one lad biting another in Croke Park' but he reiterated that he has not changed his views on the subject.
The impression given from some quarters afterwards was that we were all just singing off the one hymn sheet, a hymn sheet inclined to make little of the story. Not true.
He indicated that this stance largely stemmed from his experience as a player when himself and Paul Galvin had sit and watch sullenly as the Sunday Game plucked out an incident they were involved in and held it aloft before the TV audience.
The woefully impressionable lads in the CCCC would dutifully rush and knock out a suspension.
