Tipperary Senior goalkeeper and All-Ireland winner Darren Gleeson is to stand trial in the Circuit Court on theft and fraud charges.

As reported by RTÉ, it is alleged that between 2013 and 2015, the 35-year-old Portroe man stole over €93,000 using cheques.

The 2014 All-Star appeared at Nenagh District Court today, and has now been sent forward to the Circuit Court sittings in Nenagh on the 25th of this month. He is now on bail.

Gleeson stands accused of initially stealing €50,000, by lodging a cheque made payable to himself from the account of a woman on 21st of May 2014. Furthermore, it's alleged that he stole €10,000 on February 26th 2015 by lodging a cheque made payable to himself from the same woman, and that he took €1,960 in September 2013 via the same method.

He has also been charged with using the same method to steal respective sums of €10,000 and €22,000 from an unnamed man in February and November 2013.

Gleeson has won two All-Irelands and six Munster titles for his native Tipp.
