BBC One Northern Ireland at 9 pm on Monday 21st March. GAA fans, we'd advise you park yourselves in front of the telly, sit back and enjoy it. The True North documentary series takes up the story of Crossmaglen: Field of Dreams and, judging by what we've seen and heard so far, it looks like it's going to be rather special.
With two seasons worth of behind the scenes access to the Armagh club, the BBC have put together a documentary that we can't wait to see in full.
For the people of Crossmaglen, Gaelic football is a passion, a way of life … and a refuge. During the Troubles, the County Armagh village found itself at the heart of an area referred to by some, as ‘bandit country’.
Against this backdrop, a group of local children formed what was to become one of the greatest Gaelic football teams in the country – Crossmaglen Rangers.
The story is picked up after Oisín McConville and John McEntee take over the reigns in 2014 and delves into what makes the club quite so special within the confines of the political situation that has surrounded it since the 1970s. One of the most emotive sections of the programme is sure to a conversation between McConville and a former British Army soldier who was once stationed in Crossmaglen.
And aside from politics, there's also the day to day trouble of running a GAA club to be taken into account with Jamie Clarke's decision to leave the game behind and head to New York explored in depth. Judging by this short trailer, it's not something GAA fans are going to want to miss.
