It really feels necessary to preface the following words by saying, 'no really, this isn't a joke'.
The Irish Sun have an exclusive today in which they disclose that Paul Howard, the man behind Ross O'Carroll-Kelly, is putting the finishing touches to the script for 'Coppers: The Musical'. I've reread the article 17 times and it definitely says 'Coppers: The Musical'.
The main man behind the show is Darren Smith who was behind 'Anglo: The Musical'. Smith says that it will be set on the eve of an All-Ireland final.
It's West Side Story - but with culchies versus the Dubs on the eve of an All-Ireland final. I regard Paul as a genius in bringing out the comedy in the urban/city divide. The words 'Coppers' and 'Musical' shouldn't go together, but they do, in the same way that 'Jerry Springer' and 'Opera' was a bizarre mix which worked.
It is quite a bit away from being a reality though as they are yet to find funding. If does get off the ground then maybe they can get Neil Francis to review it.
