Kieran Donaghy may have shared Philly McMahon's sentiment of 'what happens on the field, stays on the field' but that will be for the CCCC to decide. The GAA's primary disciplinary body have completed a review of the incident and McMahon will find out this weekend if he is to face a suspension.
Although some fans may be looking for the book to be thrown at the Dublin defender, the Irish Times are reporting that, if he is to be suspended it is likely to be under a Category III infraction of behaving 'in any way which is dangerous to an opponent'. In this regard it should be noted that 'gouging' as a specific offence is not covered in the GAA rule book.
That means that if the CCCC decide a suspension is necessary in this instance, it will more than likely be for one match. Coincidentally, McMahon would likely serve that suspension at the start of Dublin's national league campaign which just so happens to kick off against Kerry in January.
