I might be a bit late to the party on this one so apologies if you're a avid 'Hurling' fan who takes umbrage to my ignorance of the sport but I never knew it existed until today.
Called 'Hurling the Silver Ball' or 'Cornish Hurling', so as to differentiate itself from the Irish sport, this version of the game is played on the street/road and has absolutely no rules bar the fact that the first team to score a 'goal' wins.
So what is it? Basically there's a town team, a country team and one silver ball. Each team has their own goal, i.e. the town goal and the country goal, set about two miles apart and the winner is the team who gets the ball into their own goal first or the team manages to carry the ball out of the parish.
It sounds and looks bonkers.
The game is around 500 years old and touching the silver ball can apparently bring you good luck and fertility. Oh and the price of the ball is a secret but it's said to be worth around £300. A slight bit more expensive than a sliotar.
