AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou's has put forward a radical plan to shake up the international rules series.
This would see an indigenous all-stars team tour Ireland in October. The indigenous all-stars would be similar in concept to the New Zealand Maori rugby team with the team made up mainly of aboriginal players.
Having an Australia international rules team that will be selected based on race is sure to be controversial. Not since the Aboriginal cricket team toured England in 1868 has a senior indigenous representative team been selected to play for Australia
The plan has received cautious support from the leading players and clubs in Australia and Demetriou put forward his proposal to the GAA last week with the association expected to respond in the coming days.
