Anthony Tohill was today announced as the successor to Sean Boylan's crown as International Rules Manager. He will oversee the sport here in Ireland, a sport which nobody cares about anymore, a sport that doesn't matter and certainly doesn't entertain.
The game has never really taken off and has relied heavily on the constant fighting to gain any sort of spotlight, although a bit of racial abuse never did it any harm either nor did it hurt Graham Geraghty's employment prospects as he was picked to stand for Fine Gael some years later, albeit terribly unsuccessfully.
The Geraghty incident and indeed that tour is where the game should have been buried for good, even the nice people at the Sinn Fein pamphlet An Phoblacht stood up against what went on, but here we are some years later expected to welcome in a new era of a sport that's really not.
