The dual dream is still alive for a number of clubs competing on both fronts.
Naas pulled off the double last year with three players involved with both teams.
Cratloe (2014) and Loughmore-Castleiney (2013 and 2021) have both done it with a much larger crossover, while Slaughtneil have done the double five times in the last ten years.
Seven senior clubs still have the chance this year, though only five of them have dual players.
*denotes no dual players
Loughmore-Castleiney
The Tipperary club are through to the semi-finals in both codes having beaten Kilruane MacDonaghs and JK Brackens in their respective last eight clashes.
Home of the McGraths, Loughmore-Castleiney haven't lost a championship game of any kind so far this year, as they bid to repeat their heroics of '13 and '22.
What makes their achievements all the more impressive is that the vast majority of their players play both codes.
Cratloe
Cratloe are down to the last eight in the football and the last four in the hurling.
They beat Scarriff in the hurling quarter final last weekend with Conor McGrath scoring seven from play, with the football quarter final against Lissycasey coming up this weekend as they bid to defend their crown.
Like Loughmore-Castleiney, the majority of their players are dual. They've separate managers with John O'Gorman over the hurlers and Colm Collins over the footballers.
Slaughtneil
Slaughtneil have won eleven successive Derry hurling championships and are on course to make it twelve, but they're now three years without a football title.
They're in good shape this year with four wins out of four in the group stages of the SFC, where they defeated reigning All-Ireland champs Glen.
Again, the vast majority of their players play both codes. Using 2023 as a point of reference, 12 of their players feature in their final games of the year in both codes.
Na Fianna
The reigning county hurling champs are through to the quarter finals, taking on Ballyboden St Enda's next Sunday.
Their footballers have Kilmacud Crokes in the semi-final in a fortnight's time. Donal Ryan and Conor McHugh are their only two dual players.
Naas
Naas are on course for the double-double, with Brian Byrne, James Burke and Daire Guerin still involved on both fronts.
Crossabeg Ballymurn
The Wexford club are through to a first ever senior football semi-final, and have a hurling quarter final coming up this weekend, against Shelmaliers.
Dicksboro
The Kilkenny club won their third Kilkenny senior football title recently, and compete in the hurling quarter finals this weekend. The majority of their players are dual.
Na Piarsaigh (Limerick)*
The Limerick side are fresh entrants to the dual list, through to the semi-finals of the hurling and the quarter finals of the football. There is no cross-over between their hurling and football teams.
Kilmacud Crokes*
Crokes are through to the semi-finals in both codes, having last pulled off the double in 2022. Brian Sheehy was their only dual player for those successes, but he's playing exclusively for the hurlers now, meaning they have no dual players this year.
