The Newry Mitchels underage GAA tournament saw glorious scenes at the weekend.

Among the prizes handed out after the blitz tournament, there is an award for 'the best presented team'.

This, say the organisers, is usually conferred on the team with the best discipline and most impressive banners.

However, this year's winners, the Dunshaughlin U12s, took home the prize for unusual reasons.

In the Cup quarter-final, the Meath youngsters played out what everyone believed to be a draw with their opponents.

Everyone, that is, except for the referee.

He had Dunshaughlin winning by a point. Cue tears and recriminations from the opponents.

The referee's decision is final, however, and barring the offer of extra time, the result was settled. Like Meath in 2010, Dunshaughlin had won and that was that.

But, wait...

After some conferring between the managers, Dunshaughlin agreed to offer the opposing team extra-time.

They eventually lost in extra-time but as the Newry Mitchels Tournament Facebook page indicates, they won something much greater than that.
