Sky Sports GAA presenter Rachel Wyse has spoken out about Joe Brolly's comments, saying that fingers of blame should be pointed firmly at RTÉ when it comes to the debate over personalities being hired to serve as mere window dressing for viewers.
Wyse said that allowing the likes of Brolly, Colm O'Rourke and Pat Spillane on television is nothing short of pandering to the female audience.
'When you listen to their analysis it's clear that they have no knowledge of the game,' she said, before presenting photographic evidence as way of comparison between Colm O'Rourke and David Hasslehoff.
We have managed to obtain said photos:
A clearly fuming Wyse said that good, honest men were being done out of football analyst roles due to RTÉ's policy of persisting with lookers rather than thinkers.
Granted there was an old regime years ago when the likes of Spillane and O'Rourke were bought in but one would have hoped the trend would have changed in recent times.
Yet who do they bring aboard last year? Eamonn 'I've still got a glorious tan even though it's January' O'Hara.
Again she was quick with the photos to back up her argument. 'Just look at these and tell me they didn't hire him because he was easy on the eye,' she told us.
Wyse said RTÉ seriously need to change their attitude when it comes to the GAA coverage. In particular she highlighted Pat Spillane for being too superficial: 'He seems more concerned with ''What tie will I wear today?'' rather than ''What articulate argument and analysis will I bring up on the show?''
Do you agree with Wyse? Do RTÉ favour eye candy on their football panel rather than suitably qualified pundits?
