This is one of the oddest stories I've read in a long time. The Sun today report that RTÉ are replacing Marty Whelan on Winning Streak with Marty Morrissey in 'a bid to stay relevant.'
A tale with so many layers, it seems cruel irony is at work with Whelan set to be axed just months after he revealed he had a hair transplant to help him prolong his television career.
Speaking about this Winning Streak bombshell, a source in RTÉ told The Sun 'It needs to lose the blue rinse brigade and connect with a younger audience.' So the obvious decision was to replace a 57-year-old Marty with a 53-year-old Marty.
The source said 'Lottery bosses have identified football-bonkers bachelor Marty Morrissey as the best host to attract the younger viewers, without alienating the older audience who tune in.'
'Kids go to Halloween parties with orange faces dressed up as Marty. Young people love him.'
It seems that Morrissey will front a new show to replace the old version of Winning Streak, although it's unclear if Sinead Kennedy will still co-host with the Clareman.
