Like Roy Keane before them, the GPA are not happy with Paddy Power's energetic marketing team. This week, Paddy Power set about attempting to find the 100 hottest GAA players in the country.
Their methodology was most impressive. Dodging the problem of county bias (and the natural superstar bias) that has blighted many a hot GAA player list, they enlisted 1,000 American women to ensure complete superficiality.
However, the GPA are deeply unhappy with the campaign, and claim that no permission was given for the campaign.
According to the Daily Star, the players body sent out this text message urging members not to support their brand.
NO permission was granted to betting company today for exploitation of player images for publicity-seeking promo. Pls don't promote their brand #showrespect
Paddy Power responded in the traditional fashion, saying their campaign was 'purely a bit of craic'. They are confident they haven't infringed on anyone's image rights.
