After a massive weekend of football action, this week's footballer of the week poll was always going to be hotly contested. Indeed it proved very difficult for us to narrow it down to just the four nominations, with the likes of Seamus O'Shea, Frank McGlynn and Karl O'Connell unlucky to miss out.
However, we eventually settled on our four choices. With Monaghan's Conor McManus and Mayo's Aidan O'Shea certs to be included we also decided to give McManus' teammate Dessie Mone the nod, after a seriously committed display in his side's win over Donegal. Meanwhile we always felt David Moran's impressive performance for Kerry against Cork warranted his inclusion.
So how did they fare? One clear winner rose to the top.
While Mayo's team performance against Sligo was exemplary, Aidan O'Shea was in a league of his own on Sunday, scoring a whopping 3-4. His performance around the edge of the square surely served as a warning sign for defences who'll face him later on in the summer and it was good enough to earn him our title of footballer of the week.
While you could question the quality of opposition O'Shea faced, there was no doubting that Conor McManus was given a torrid time of it by Donegal on Sunday, yet still managed to emerge with three fantastic points from play. His man of the match performance didn't go unnoticed, as he finished second in our poll with 33% of the vote. He is followed in third by David Moran on 7% and Dessie Mone with 4%.
