Who said Galway only have one forward? This week's hurler of the week vote has presented a clear and deserved winner from the two quarter-final matches in the form of one Jonathan Glynn.
Glynn endeared himself to the Irish public both on and off the pitch Sunday with a brilliant display in the Tribesmen's impressive win over Cork. Glynn laid down a marker from the word go with a brilliantly taken early goal, which set Galway on their way. He would add two points to his tally before coming off towards the end of the match to a rousing ovation in light of his man of the match performance.
The wing forward pips Waterford's Maurice Shanahan, with his Déise counterpart receiving 24% of Balls readers' votes. Meanwhile Cathal Mannion and Shane Bennett couldn't be separated, with both players landing 12% of the vote.
In the football qualifiers, both Kildare and Fermanagh made no mistake in dispensing of Cork and Westmeath respectively. Kildare are slowly building their confidence back up after that defeat to Dublin, while Fermanagh fans are surely reveling in what's becoming a summer of adventure.
While big forwards like Michael Murphy and Aidan O'Shea usually get all the attention, two small men in the form of Thomas Corrigan and Niall Kelly dominated our poll for footballer of the week. Corrigan was immense in Fermanagh's victory in Breffni Park on Saturday evening and his performance has earned him the gong, with 38% of the vote.
Kildare's duo of Niall Kelly and Paul Cribben weren't far behind with 29% and 26% respectively.
All attention now turns to this weekend, with the two remaining qualifiers taking place on Saturday evening, while Fermanagh and Kildare are back out again in the All Ireland quarter-finals, against Dublin and Kerry respectively.
